New Head of School - Robert Carreau PhD.

The self is not something ready-made, but something in continuous formation through choice of action.
– John Dewey, 1916

I am humbled and honoured to join Rosseau Lake College as Head of School begnning in August 2017. I first learned of this incredible place in 1991 while attending a similar independent school in Quebec, and again while studying computer science and outdoor education at McMaster University in 1997. Since then I have lived and worked mostly in Nunavut and Nova Scotia, studying environmental science, experiential education, and reconciliation work with Indigenous communities. My most recent leadership positions have been as principal at Nasivvik High School in Nunavut, adjunct professor in the Faculty of Education at St. Francis Xavier University, and vice principal the EĢcole acadienne de Truro, a francophone K-12 school in Nova Scotia. I spend most of my free time volunteering on boards of directors (I am the current Chair of the Nova Scotia School Athletic Federation), coaching Cross Country and Track & Field, and training for triathlons.

I arrive in Rosseau with my wife, Lavinia, and three of our children, Angeline (14), Eve (13), and Miles (11). Our oldest, Keegan (19) has just finished his first year of university and will remain in Halifax. On a personal level, this position at Rosseau Lake College comes at the perfect time for our family, and I believe that we are arriving at the right time for the school. There is exciting work to do in this period of transition, and I look forward to engaging with staff, students, parents, alumni, the Board of Directors, and members of the surrounding communities and First Nations as we look ahead to another 50 transformative years at the best small independent school in the country.
