The snow seems to keep on falling and the Outdoor Ed classes have been making the most of it! This week the grade 10's have been working hard to build quinzees! What is a quinzee you might ask? Great question. A quinzee is a winter shelter, made by piling a large amount of snow, letting it settle and then digging out the inside. Not only is it an effective survival shelter, it is a great learning tool that helps the students to understand the characteristics of snow, how to dress properly for the cold, and how to stay properly hydrated and energized in the winter elements.
